First International Convocation

Updated: Mar 28

The first international convocation was held at St. Charles Borromeo Retreat House, Tagaytay City, Philippines. The 3-day meeting was attended by the Primate of the Archdiocese of California, His Grace, Archbishop Ivan Cantañeda, DD., the new appointed Chancellor, Fr. Edwin Arley Perez from Columbia, Fr. Vincent of Kenya, Fr. Peter of Vietnam, Most Rev. Rey Maglente, DD from Canada (online), Msgr. Orlie Guardados from Clearwater, Florida, USA, Fr. Expedito, Caermare from Gridley, California, USA and priests from the Diocese of Padre Pio of Pietrelcena with its local ordinary Most Rev. Joselito Sarigumba, DD and the Diocese of the Infant Jesus with its local ordinary Most. Rev. Jose Madangguit, DD (online) and its respective clergy from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Most Rev. Rey Maglente, DD shared a brief history of North American Old Roman Catholic Church starting from the creation of the big 5 churches by the apostles themselve, namely Church of Jerusalem, Church of Constantinople, Church of Antioch, Church of Alexandria and the Church of Rome, down to the conception of the Sea of Utrecht in the Netherlands and to the creation of the Archdiocese of California with its emphasis on the solid line of Apostolic succession to support the validity and legitimacy of administering the seven sacraments of the Holy Church.

Most Rev. Joselito Sarigumba, DD, also gave an input on the spirituality of NAORCC Utrecht Succession Archdiocese of California. Bp. Joe centered his sharing on the spirituality that is common to all priests as "Alter Cristus" an important role of priests as a representative of Christ, acting in the person of Christ in the celebration of the sacraments and their ministries. Priest's life must be centered in the Holy Eucharist with a profound devotion of the Blessed Virgin Mary as Bp. Jo stressed.

Rev. Msgr. Jojo Soldevilla was tasked to discuss seminary formation for those who are interested to join as ordained deacon and/or as ordained priest. Mons. Jojo described our formation as unique considering the geographical distance of our formation center (Padre Pio Seminary) and the Formandee unlike a regular seminary where seminarians live in one place with the formators. The three aspects of formation, namely, human, spiritual and pastoral shall be handled by the immediate superior of the formandee supervised by the formation in charge of each dioceses. On the other hand, the intellectual aspect shall be handled by Mons. Jojo as the head of the formation via online. As a matter of fact, the latter presented the scholastic program which replicates that of REMASE.

Lastly, the group revisited its vision and mission statements with an expectation to formulate action statements that would bring the mission statements into reality and to show each other's commitments. It was done through group sharing on each personal experiences in the ministry and personal commitment for our church to grow and improve. The group decided to revisit again these commitments on the next convocation in the year 2027 in General Santos City.

During the gathering 2 priests were elevated to monsignors: Rev. Msgr. Edwin Arley Perez, the new Chancellor and Rev. Msgr. Ronald Atup, the Provincial Superior of MCIJ in the Philippines.
